Kit Simmons (they/them) is an actor-creator and Fight Director/intimacy coordinator*. They are Autistic/Neurodivergent, and a commitment to accessible and compassionate work process drives their practice, pulling from training in vocal work and body work including somatics, a variety of movement disciplines, and radical consent practices. Their work explores ambition, shame, and personal problems experienced publicly. Their Queer identity influences the politic of their work, and their training has ranged from classical voice work to ballet to clown - a cross-disciplinary approach is at the heart of all their projects. They have been involved with a variety of independent work and worked with festivals such as Paprika Festival, Toronto Fringe, Hamilton Fringe, Alumnae Theatre’s New Ideas Festival, and more.
Recent theatre and film credits: Conversations Around the Table (Open Heart Arts), Sarah (Hoffworks Productions), and The Audition (Impetus Theatre).
After graduating, they were involved in a number of productions as a stage manager, choir member, director, editor, and actor around Toronto. Through the pandemic, they focused on digital performance and acquiring online-centered skills such as editing, recording, interactive video, online stage managing, graphic design, social media management, live event streaming, and compassionate online rehearsal and creation practices. They continue to pursue acting and fight directing, while occasionally taking stage management and production management jobs. They currently live in Hamilton with their beloved partner and almost enough houseplants - one can never have too many.
*intimacy coordinator is typed in lowercase because while I am happy to work as an intimacy coordinator (and strongly believe in the overlap of skills with fight direction), I'm not as qualified or as trained in intimacy coordination - mostly due to financial accessibility - and I believe in being upfront about that. I'm confident in my work and my care, and I'm always happy to talk about my philosophy and priorities in coordination/choreography of any kind, and I am happy to provide references upon request.
